Oh what a nightmare I had on Saturday when I decided to change my winter wheels to my summer ones... just then I realized the OEM jaguar lug nuts are just a steel nut covered with a chrome jacket... when that jacket gets loose... good luck removing the nut, as the cover keeps spinning.

Two hours later I had to break the chrome cover with a chisel and strip it off to reveal the steel nut which goes down from 3/4 to 11/16! And let's not talk about the damage on the rims...

What a stupid design! and they are $20++ EACH ONE! And there are 20 nuts in total!

Now I have a hard time finding a replacement without the chrome covers... there's NO WAY I'm going to use these lug nuts anymore... can you imagine getting a flat on the hwy!!! Ridiculous!

I found some nuts for a better price that are all chrome... but I'm wondering how chrome would react with the steel bolts once the wheel is mounted.

Anyone has any experience using 100% chrome lug nuts? Any other suggestions on replacing these lug nuts?

Raul,

I have used the chrome (Acorn) lug nuts before with no problem. There will not be a reaction between the chrome and the carbon steel studs (which are hardened.) Do not use any type of lubricant on a lug nut as this will allow over torque. If it is a long time between removal and the lubricant disolves it is very hard to remove the nut with the basic trunk tools.
