Well hi Guys. I was a Jaguar nut at one time a little while ago but have since down graded to a being just a collector. However as Mike O'Brien can attest too. I do qualify for a little more than that if you count my colection of spare parts. I could probably assemble a couple more Jaguars from what I have stored in both my parts shed and garage.

It has been bought by Borys, a young guy of 26 (younger than the car!) who is a mechanic who can also do bodywork and paintwork.  As he paid less than the cost of its autogas conversion and it doesn't require a huge amount of work, I think he has quite a good deal, and he won't have to pay someone else to do the work. He told me he has to pay £2000 a year for insurance on a 'normal', smaller car - even though he has never had a claim - but can insure the Daimler for £300 a year, on a classic car policy

Whilst I had it listed for sale, I was contacted by the owner of another one, who advised me that he I thought it was one of an original run of 698 cars produced by Vanden Plas before that company was acquired/absorbed by Jaguar, all of which were in metallic colours (this one was Mink Brown metallic). According to the website 'HowManyLeft' - which is based on DVLA figures - and information from the Daimler Club, there are now only 26 remaining, 12 of which are on SORN.

Jaguar-Daimler obviously had some very strange arrangements in North America!

Anyway, Duane, I'm glad you're not worried.  Yes, I still have the black Series III Sovereign, although it is on my list of potentially available cars - I need to reduce from my current seven vehicles!

Getting this news late Helen, but it is never sad to see one of these beauties get restored. Interesting that your VDP was a six. Over here the only six cyliner VDP's are American. In Canada they are all V-12 cars.Sovereigns are all six cylinder cars and none of them are Daimler's. Anyway, so many of them have ended up in the salvage yards and it is a shame.
Hats off to anyone who will restore one as a really good one can be had around here for about $5000-$8000 CDN. Restoring will cost ten times that.
I am engaging in a restoration of my 89 VDP, which is why no one has actually seen it in the metal...although our glorious dear leader Rob has had an opportunity....Ahem.

Helen, I will never be mad with you as long as you love them and do whats best for them, and you do still have one...don't you?

Duane (Not worried at all)

Oh dear, Duane is going to be upset with me - I just sold one of my S3 Daimlers  but it's gone to someone who's going to restore it to its original glory   Bye bye, Vanden Plas  xx

Truth is I have owned several myself and never had any serious trouble with them. I would take them anywhere even when the nearest mechanic was someone from "Deliverance". Never had to worry about needing "help"

Absolutely agree, on all points, Bleasie - a very interesting talking point. I have owned 3 off V12 Jaguars in my life (2 saloons and a coupe) - and it was only electrical problems that caused me any aggravation with one of them. Had to get a new (updated) igntion amplifier for that one, but that was all - turbine smooth engines - just loved them :)

I have seen that Jag web story. Very complete.
I do stand by my convictions, NO ONE has ever made a more practical and tractable V-12 engine. It is the Most reliable of All V12 engines EVER made as well.

Lovely things these Jag-you-are's eh Wot?

The story of the Jaguar V12 is told in great detail here:

Interesting discussion:
From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V12_engine) we read:
Packard's 1916 "Twin Six" is widely regarded as the first production V12 engine.

Wikipedia also mention that Renault and Sunbeam were making V12 engines for aircraft at that time too - I had no idea those two companies were so advanced back then!
